Second Day - AUS and Dubai

On Sunday we woke up and walked across the American Universiry of Sharjah campus to eat a quick breakfast before we were split into two groups and taken on tours. My tour guide was studying abroad at AUS, was from the USA, and was a hoot. After our tour, we had a lunch at one if the eating spots on campus, sponsored by the AUS exchange office. Personally, I tried garlic spaghetti, dragon fruit juice, and a couple of Emerati candies.

Then, we drove to Dubai. First, we walked around the city visiting a couple souks. Several of us bought saffron (the world's most expensive spice) at the spice souk. At the textile souk, delegates bartered for pashminas (head shawls), wall hangings, shirts, quilts, trinkets, and more. We also took a water taxi (a little boat) across the river that flows to the gulf.

The UAE has many of the world's "most". Besides being home to the world's most expensive spice, it is also home to the world's largest mall and tallest building (Burj Khalifa)! In fact, they reside right next to each other in Dubai. Outside of the mall is The Dancing Lights. They were o e of my favorite parts of the trip for me. There were individual fountains in this large pool that lit up and "danced" to traditional Arabic music. It was so beautiful! Going up to the top of Burj Khalifa was great. The view was insane, and we could see the lights of the city for miles.

Sunday night we went to bed expecting to find new adventures on Abu Dhabi the next day...
